The House Will Come Down

Everyone has the role they play
The mask they wear that gets them through the day
Play the part
Recite your lines
Doesn't matter if you believe it at the time
The drama never changes
Even when it's comedy
And laughter always falls to tears

Stay in character
Follow the script
There's only one way this can end
And the audience paid a pretty penny
For the chance to bear witness
There's roses waiting for you at the end
Roses and a great big bow
Before the curtain descends

And if your part ends in act one, two or three
It doesn't matter
The play goes on, always goes on
Just make sure to play your part
Smile pretty and say your lines
What everyone expects
Because they've all seen this play before

And if you're a bit player
Or the star it doesn't matter much
Because we all have a part we have to play
And a mask that makes the role that more bearable
Only a few scenes more
Then the house will come down
At last
