Because I Can

I will go into the battle
Sword within my sheath
Armor left under a layer of dust in my closet
Ride in naked on my horse and fight the army
Using my bare hands and nothing else
Just because I can

I will go into the desert
Set up camp in the Sahara
Without a canteen or sunscreen and let myself figure out how to find the oasis
No guides or camels to depend on
No planes to come to my rescue
Just because I can

I will climb Mount Everest
In asthmatic attack and leave my oxygen on the slope.
Carry a paraplegic on my back to let him see the view
Plant my flag upon the summit and do a victory dance in the snow
Just because I can

I will rise to meet each day
Dusting off the remains of what happened
Letting go the can bes, the shoulds, and the oughts
Breathing deeply from inside, I'll let my true self shine
Without pretense, without delusions
Living in the moment and appreciating myself for who I am
Because I can.
