Drought

The parched earth cracks and splits
A seven year drought in valley
And the people all wonder how they can endure
With another bad harvest
The crops wither in the searing sun

And I don't know how we can endure the drought
And I don't know when the rain's gonna come
And if I had a way, I'd make it rain today
But we're stuck in the drought

Red dry earth, red dry clay
Hot dry sun, hot dry day
And the farmer says to his wife
Another year of this and we're going to lose the farm, maybe it's time to give up this life
Go work in a factory
And I hear the new Wal-Mart's hiring

Cause I don't know how we can endure the drought
And I don't know when the rain's gonna come
And if I had a way, I'd make it rain today
But we're stuck in the drought

The dust sticks to the cars
It sticks to our feet as we walk down the road
And there's not enough water to wash it off
So we walk around dirty and hungry and dry
And in our dreams there's a plane that takes away from here

Because we just can't endure the drought
And the rain might never come
All our prayers won't make it rain today
We're dying in this drought
